The Music for the Mind (MFTM) Program is a therapeutic experiential learning program designed for use in supporting mental health strategies and building social capacity.
Combining the skills of elite professional songwriters and musicians who understand the benefit of the dynamic power of music – participants of the program will begin to develop practical skills and effective techniques in songwriting and recording, initiating a creative process that yields healing and self-discovery on a variety of levels, in a safe and supportive environment.
The program has seen overwhelming success in its initial trial phase. Contracted 5 years running at Oolong House Aboriginal Corporation, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre located in Nowra, the program is funded by Government health departments.
During its time, MFTM has seen an incredibly diverse and broad range of people – varying ages, backgrounds, education, beliefs, mental health issues, wider medical issues, severe social issues and in majority of cases individuals who have been incarcerated. ALL of these individuals have found positive growth from as little as one session, with many developing the tools to maintain a positive change in life, including overcoming and managing addiction.
The success of the program has been recognised at the State and Federal level in Australia, with Stella Studioz being awarded Large Grant funding through the Children & Young People Wellbeing Recovery Initiative (CYPWRI) from the Regional NSW State Department.
